air conditioning questions

Ok guys and gals,

I am scrounging for the future and wonder what air conditioning parts I need to find from wrecking yards to build my own A/C system.

In loose translation I think that I will need a new receiver dryer but the compressor. condenser blowers etc. don't have to be new to be good.

So far I am thinking about finding the secondary floor mounted system from a full sized van. Anybody have any thoughts on that idea?

I am planning on installing the guts of the system under and behind the seat. I also plan to install the heater core there as I will seldom need it (I hope). I plan to route the defrost air up and around the doors to blow on the windshield and side window from the top.

I did basically what you are thinking, however I mounted the heat and AC behind the dash in my 49. It started with a swap meet aftermarket AC kit for a 70's ford truck minus a compressor, condensor and dryer. I added a new for $25 heater core by gluing up some additional ABS to add to the original ABS box to get the heater core in the airflow path of the fan that came with the AC unit.
The only disadvantage is that it prevented an in dash radio which I am building into the headliner as an overhead mounted radio. If I had it to do again, I might at least investigate one of the complete units specifically made for a bonus built truck.

I'm planning the A/C for my truck also, and this is what I'm thinking about doing. My engine has the factory compressor ans serpentine belt drive on it, so that hard to beat, I'm going to use that. I want to buy the Vintage Air evaporator kit (75456 LFZ-A) which is less compressor, condenser and hard lines. then Vintage Air also makes two hard line kits for these trucks, compressor on left or right. They also make a condenser kit. Or Walker also make a radiator/condenser combo for these trucks and I'm thinking about using theirs. So those are what I'm looking at but I'm also interested in what some of the others have done.
