Dana 60 Swap

Well I just scored on my Dana 60 for My SAS swap on my 1994. The wife and I dove from Seattle to Portland to pick up this diff that was pulled from a 1995 unlifted f350, 4:10 gears. $750.00. The only thing I was disappointed about was the seller said over the phone that he had the driver side lower spring plate, but he could not find it when I got there. Said he would look again and ship to me,but I am not holding my breath. Had the breaks, rotors, lockouts and steering still attached and all looked in good shape. No other parts were available for the conversion. Compared to everything else I have looked at on Craigslist, it didn't seem like a bad deal. Since I have to swap the gears out for 4:56 ratio to match the rear, I could probably sell the 4:10 set and also the 4:56 that Im currently running in my Dana 50 TTB.
I still need to figure out which f350 leaf springs to use to bring my front up to match the rear. The truck currently has 4" lift brackets bolted and welded to the cross member, and a 5 pack of leafs over the axle tubes. Overall it looks taller than just a 4" lift. Wish I could figure out how to upload pictures? From what I have read I still need to find a f350 driveshaft, track bar and drop mounting bracket, driver spring pad and drop f350 pitman arm.
I know SKY sells a RSK kit for these conversions but for now I think I will try to stick with a spring lift.
Happy to have finally gotten started on this.

you can use your current springs, it will just ride a bit on the rough side.

I could use them but they will not give me the lift I need to match the rear. Besides, from the forum discussions I have read they are way too stiff.

if u have 4" lift springs in the truck just cut off the welded drop brackets bolt in. The lift springs are the same for these trucks u will need a drop track bar mount but no drop pitman its already the right one since lifted already

Ok, cool. I was under the impression that the lift itself on these TTB's is the drop down brackets at the crossmember. Did not know the lift springs were the same between the F250 and F350.
Thank you.

Been reading up a lot about all the upgrades available for the Dana 60 axle and guy could really drop alot of money in one of these making it as bullet proof as possible. One thing I would like to do for sure is upgrade the knuckle to a 96-97 model, so I can run the bolt on style calipers instead of the pins. Does anybody know of a source for balljoint knuckles. Many upgrades for the Kingpin but not much for balljoint. High steer would be nice but not necessary, since I will not be lifting over 4".
Thanks in advance.

if the 60 you got is out of a 95 it will have bolt on calipers not wedge style..... You will spend a lot of money on 95-97 60 knuckles and its not even worth the money to try the "upgrade"

I would do a RSK for sure. The ride is bad with a lift spring and the shackle in the front. Also, just FYI, I have about 9" of lift and don't run a track/panhard bar.

Don't the RSK kits move the solid axle further towards the rear of the wheelwell? How much bump steer are you experiencing?

The RSK will move the axle forward some to allow for the shackle being at the rear of the spring - as the spring flattens out the axle will move back.

I have no bump steer probs.

If I recall the king pin style is generally considered more desireable than the ball joint. It's supposed to be stronger. Something to think about.

^ Yes. It's also much cheaper/easier to convert to x over steering.

King pin on mine:

95+ axles have Bolt on calipers. If yours are PIN on, then it is a 94 or older.

If you want a bolt on caliper, i would sell your current axle and buy what your want
