P0731 Improper Ratio for First Gear

I have a 06 f150 and about a month ago I purchased an edge evolution. Twice in the past 3 weeks my o/d light starts flashing and my truck beeps and it shows Trans Fault on the trucks display. When I use the edge to check the DTC it comes back as P0731. Anyone have any ideas of the cause? Im running the canned level 3 tune no changes and trucks completly stock other then the edge. Also both times I have been going about 10 mph down a hill without giving it any gas. Also both times of shut the truck off and let it sit for a bit to make sure I wasnt going to break something.

Thanks,
John

I had an 01 ranger a few years ago and that happened to it it was the trans was bad. If your OD light flashes like that and the truck has eratic shifting i don't want to scare you but i belive your trans is going south.

Havent noticed any erratic shifting. It usually occurs within 5 minutes of starting my truck. Like I said though im usually going 10 mph down a fairly steep hill so im not giving it any gas just coasting down the hill and letting the tranny slow me down instead of riding the breaks. But during daily driving inbetween and after the codes havent noticed anything out of the ordinary.

I had the same lights flashing and trans fault, but mine was the speed sensor. Dont know if that helps but it might be something to look into.

You need to check to make sure you didnt reprogram your rear end ratio with the edge. program the truck back to stock and see if the problem goes away.

Haha per Edge customer support I updated my evo and now i get error 403 42Lcmg as soon as I plug my evo into my truck. This sucks!!! Hopefully I will be able to get things squared away tomorrow with Edge. Other than setting my truck back to stock is there anything I can do to make sure Ford doesn't say were not going to fix this cause of the programmer before I call and schedule a service appointment?

Ya I set it back to stock. I just got done searching the internet and apparently Bill from powerhungry was working on a new update last week and edge pushed it out while it was still in testing on accident. Was supposed to be fixed yesterday but apparently I got some bad luck today and it continued with the edge. Hopefully edge customer support will get this fixed tomorrow for me.

Does your truck still throw codes even when stock?

Great customer support from Edge! They back rev'd me in versions and I was on my way in 10 minutes. As for the other problem being that the truck is not driving any different when im getting the flashing o/d and trans fault he said it could be the fact that I have taken the truck in numerous times for other TSB's so I keep reprogramming the computer and sometimes the trucks will through erratic faults when its relearning everything.

Hey Beernutz09, my 06 F150 started doing the same thing about a week ago under the exact same circumstances. It's the first start in the morning and I immediately go down a steep hill, going slowly, and kinda coast to the bottom when my o/d off light starts blinking and I throw a P0731 code with my edge on level 1. I went to stock, then back to level 1 but it threw the code again a couple of days later, same place each time. I have it on the stock setting now and it hasn't thrown the code yet after 3 days. Edge tech support asked me if I was in drive or 1st gear but mine happens when truck is in drive. I have an appointment on monday at the dealer but may cancel if it might be an edge programming issue. Let me know if you find anything else out from edge. My transmission shifts fine otherwise so I don't think it's really a transmission issue, at least I hope not.

If you unprogram the Edge and it doesnt throw the code it is a issue with the Edge.
