Good afternoon fellow FTER's. I had to walk away from this thing Sunday, I started to get frustrated when I dropped the valve body into a large bowel of ATF, covering myself once again with the stuff. Ok monday I installed the valve body making 100% sure the manual shift linkage, and the kickdown switch were in there proper places and funchining. Now today I adjusted the B&M Mega shifter, and kick down cabels. everythig felt close enough to try it on the ground, so off the stands, added the fluid, b4 fireing it up. The results were less than ideal . Its hits all the gears even park, but no real bite in any gear. I checked my vacume wich was 20lbs at hi idel so thats ok. I think next Im going to go back and double check adjusments on both bands, and get a gauge to monitor the fluid pressure, the Haynes book has a chart that show how much pressure you should have in what gear, useing the preassure test port. I think this should reveal quite a bit. Nothing will work without preasure 'right'. After that, I could check the servo's even thoughI dont think there causing this trouble. I just thought Id mention that even in this small town I live in, has three complete mechanics librarys, that are in great shape, so dont 'forget, to use all the resources at our disposal. Ok Guys and Gals, thats it for me, Ill keep yall posted. Have a wonderful MayDay tomorrow.
Dang, dang, dang. I was really hoping your next post in the C4 saga would have been about happy cruising miles.
Everytime I think you have it licked and that this thing can't possibly find another way to introduce grief into your life, you manage to surprise me.
Maybe someone can provide some insight here (I hope)
Bobby
make sure that when you changed the valve body you didn't jam the rod for the modulator. I did this and the one i rebuilt wouldn't go into drive.when i filled it i put in 7 quarts. of fluid then ran it threw the gears on stands then added 2 more then ran threw the gears. Then i readjusted the bands and mine shifts great and by reading your posts you did a lot more research when you rebuilt yours i just found a pic on line and went at it. so i'm sure you just need to readjust your bands or something simple.

Your post couldnt have come at a better time. Im sitting here dredding going out to the garage .These things are such a simple desighn I just dont get it. I agree that it has to be somthing simple, and I will pull the modulator and check the rod. Thank you for your input, it has inspired me to get my rear out there. If I dont solve it soon, it will just have to sit untill I can afford to take it to the shop.LOL
ya i got mine from a local bone yard for 50 bucks and never should of touched it. when i tore into it it was brand new inside no wear at all the person must have totaled the car on his way home from the Tranny shop. the one in my 49 i got for 25 bucks and did nothing but put a filter in so there not much money and are plentiful.
