How many of us need new up pipes?

I know I'm to the point to do the dreaded task. After all the reading I have done, I feel it to be in my best interest to go with the IH pipes. Just curious how many others need to do this, and are planning to use the IH pipes? Reason? Thought maybe if there is enough demand possibly could get a group buy going and maybe a little volume discount from a supporting vendor. Ya never know til ya ask.

Just did mine about 3 weeks ago. My OEM uppies were shot! I went with the Dorman bellowed instead of the IH bellowed because I couldn't afford the IH. The Dormans were a great fit and they're working well so far. Time will tell if they'll last as long as the IH brand does.

I need to do mine and if i wasnt getting new uppipes with the s468 turbo im going to put on the truck then i would go with the IH. I just feel like i would have more of a peace of mind and not have to worry about them going bad.

Here, here! At least one set, but heck, if a group buy drops the price enough, I may need two.

Based on everyone saying how their upipes were shot, I ordered new donuts for mine since I was pulling out my turbo and couldn't afford to do the IH pipes right now. Well I have 114K on my truck and after I got my turbo out, I checked the uppipes and they felt like everything was welded together. Absolutely no play in the collector and no sign of the donuts being bad. I put the turbo back on without even changing the donuts since I figured since everything was tight, I didn't want to take a chance on pulling everything apart and then there being some issue down the road. I also put less that 10K a year on the truck. It is a So Cal truck and has very minor rust on things like this compared to a lot of the pictures of other trucks I have seen so I don't know if that comes into play or not.

I haven't researched the Dormon uppipes yet but if I plan on replacing my uppipes, I definitely would look into them. I have heard reports of them cracking but for the big difference in price, I can put my welder to use if need be.

Thanks for the input so far. I have just read too many complaints on the other brand for my peace of mind. I know they are quite a bit cheaper to purchase, but I really don't want to worry down the road. Maybe this idea will work, maybe it won't, but can't hurt anything to ask.

You're right, like I said I didn't research them. But for the price difference or a good find on ebay, I think I might get them and cut and weld them to make them fit. The diameter of the pipes are the same but the late 99 turbo sets taller so the pipes are longer. Just need to cut the pipe down and adjust slightly for the slightly different angle and weld it back up. I welded a few hundred feet of tubing together to make my offroad car so this shouldn't be a big deal.

BUT back to the OP, since the bellowed uppipes are just a cure for the leaking uppipes, if you don't have leaking pipes, there isn't any performance gain to them from what I have read. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

No on Dorman. Yes on IH.

I dont NEED them, but mine leak a little. I would buy a set if there was a volume discount maybe.

So far: Tailgate77478 1 or 2, A/Ox4 1, jdw1 1, and myself. I received a pm from a vendor expressing their availability for assistance so I am waiting to see how many would need to be purchased and a possible price. Thanks all.

so far interest level is at 5, possibly 6 sets. I have communicated with one vendor and if we can get to 10 commits, we will start working on a price. Please understand that their price is already good and there isn't a huge profit margin. I have told this vendor that in no way I want them to sacrifice their making money on my behalf. I know that you can't lose and stay in business and all too many of us would not want to see that happen.
