New guy here with a 70 F-100 swb project

Hi there,

I've been lurking here for a while and trying to answer a few people's questions with my limited knowledge of these trucks. I figured it's probably time I introduce myself and my truck.
My first vehicle when I was 16 was a 71 F-100 lwb with a 302 and an automatic. With very limited knowledge and experience at the time, I just didn't want to keep up with the repairs on it (it was a $400 truck that I thought was going to be a daily driver) and got rid of it. Now 19 years later, with more knowledge, a little more money, and a whole lot more experience, I got the itch to (kind of) recreate it a couple of years ago and started looking for one and researching them. I found mine on CL about a year ago and couldn't help but snap it up.
It is a 1970 F-100 SWB. 302, 3 speed. I was actually really lucky to find one this nice living in S. Illinois with all of the snow and salt around here. This one was actually just brought here from Mississippi by a military retiree.
I have been gathering parts to start creating my dream truck, and I am getting close enough to see the day when I will start tearing into it.
It is going to get a CV IFS, Mark VIII IRS and 4.6 DOHC, and an F-150 M5R2 5 speed transmission (temporary until I can afford a T-56 6 speed with a mid-shift conversion). I already have the complete Mark VIII, and the transmission. I am still on the hunt for the CV IFS, but i figured that should be the easiest thing to find.
The plan is to build a truck that is somewhat comfortable, fuel efficient, and reliable, but is really freaking cool, while using as many Ford parts as possible. All of the major componenets are factory Ford as well as some of the other stuff that I have planned (Mustang wheels, F-600 gauge cluster, etc).
I think I am going to leave the body alone for now, as I think it is really cool just the way it is. Kinda shop-truck-y. Not to mention, I will probably put some more dents and scratches in it myself. Someday I am sure I will get tired of the way it looks and do all of the body and paint, just not now.
I'm also thinking about air bags some day off in the future. Not to slam it, more for the ride and ride hight control. That way when I throw a race car motor in the back of it or hook up to my little car trailer, I won't be draggin' a$$.

And the 4.6 DOHC and IRS donor

I wouldn't do it any differently myself, that 4.6 will go like a bat outta hell . It sure is nice to not have to worry dings and scratches...

Oh, believe me, I know that motor runs. I decided that I'm not going to use the tires that are on the car, so I've been repaving the roads around my house with them (gotta love living out in the country.). And the truck ought to be at least 500 pounds lighter than that Lincoln. Good thing I also have a traction-loc from a Super Coupe to go in it.
