Should I buy?

Hello all,

I am currently looking at a 2006 F350 CC 6.0 diesel. It has 196k miles on it and that is what worries me. They want $17,000 for it. There is no evidence that this truck was used to pull anything. It has a bed cap on it and no ball in the bed. The truck itself is in immaculate condition inside and out. Very straight and clean. I do not see any evidence of any leaking fluids either. Thoughts? And thanks in advance!

I woudn't be nervous about buying it, the other side of the coin is that the high miles shows that the previous owner wasn't afraid to drive the truck anywhere. Which of course suggests that the truck ran well and rarely (if ever) gave any problems.

Is this truck at a dealer or is this a private seller?

that is a LOT of money for that year and milage.

standard rule of 6.0 purchases:

1. add $5k to the asking price, to cover **** that might happen.

2. look at the price now. how does $22k strike you?

i paid $28k for my 6.0 van, brand new... and they gave 0% interest
for 5 years... if this still looks like a good deal to you, PM me, i have
some real estate in florida i want to show you......

I just paid (4 weeks ago from dealer in MN) 2k more for my 06 CC shortbox Lariat 4x4 auto + they threw in 4-mudflaps, full tank of gas & a 10.2" overhead DVD player (I asked as part of deal) & it only had 76k. It was also rust free due to being from Cali & a one owner truck. I would say 13-14k at most.

Thank you all for your replies. I am still really on the fence with this one. If I were to pursue this, I will definitely be talking them down a few thousand.

It's not a guaranteed that the truck will be a POS that's in barely running condition. There's a chance that if you buy it, do some maintenance, and just drive it that you can get some good life out of it before the heads blow, the tires fall off, the EGR goes nuclear, and the oil cooler turns Jed Clampett under the hood.

If you buy it, baseline it to as stock as you can get it, and take it from there, don't freak out and throw piles of money into it immediately:

Hate being in rep jail...especially when someone gives such good, sound technical advice.

I have the carfax on it. Looks like most (95%) of the maintenance was done at the Ford dealer it was purchased at. I will be asking for an Oasis report as well. The previous owner was religious about changing the oil every 6000 miles it appears. The transmission was flushed every 50,000 miles. No big ticket repairs on carfax. Oasis report could tell more. Thanks for the replies everyone!

Oil is supposed to be every 5,000 miles and tranny every 30,000 miles. Also was the ext. tranny filter changed? You've created more ?'s than answers.
