Tow report
Just got back from a trip from Austin to Fort Richardson State Park. We traveled about 540 miles total. When we started my truck had about 1020 miles on the odometer. I filled up before leaving and twice during the trip. Going to the park, I took Hwy 281. A lot of hills the first 100 miles. The first fill up I averaged 9.4 mpg. Coming back thru Fort Worth and down I35 I averaged the same 9.4 mpg. I had a south wind pushing me north to the park and a north wind pushing me south today. I am pulling a travel trailer weighing approximately 5500 lbs loaded. The mpg was slightly better than with my 2005 Chev 1500 CC SB (5.3L and 3.73 gears). The tow experience was much better with the F250 and I felt much more comfortable while towing. I took what I had learned from this forum and applied it to my trip. I towed in 5th and put the selector in 'M'. I would toggle down to 4th whenever I saw the speed start to drop from 65. I managed 6th some of the time from Fort Worth until Waco. About 20 miles south of Waco the wind switched from the north to the south and it struggled some in 6th and so I kept in 5th from then on.

Hi,
BB08, Is this a reg cab, super or crew? I have been reading and following a few mileage threads to get an idea what kind of mileage to expect. Unfortunately, my next few weekends are booked up so no trips until either memorial day weekend or June. I told the wife I want to get in at least 3 trips for a better estimate of what to expect for our trip in August to Myrtle Beach. I am expecting around 9 MPG but an easier time doing the tow vs my F150 Scab that was doing the work. Thanks for the trip mileage report.

It is a CrewCab, short bed 4X2. My next trip is in July to Fort Davis, TX (Davis Mountains State Park). Again, it was so much more relaxed driving with the F250 vs the 05 Chev Silverado 1500 CC

Nice! I know the feeling about 1/2 to 3/4 ton move. I was in the same place but moved from a 99 F150 Scab though.
