Chris' 2wd f150 460 build thread

Ive decided to actually make an official build thead. Seeing as alot of guys are here, its a good way to keep tabs on what gets done. First off its an 1984 F150 xl. It was an original 300 automatic combination with a 2:73 9 inch. but the truck belonged to a few different guys in the last little bit. But ive bought it for next to nothing when the done up 351 windsor split in half. Its got a completely built small block c6 and a limited slip 9'' with 3:50 gears. The cab upon taken apart the interior i noticed around the windshield is damn near shot, as well as down in the firewall where the fender mounts.

The interior is in pretty good shape, however the color is fading a little bit on some of the panels. so im going to repaint everything and buy new door panels and dash pad. Whats the best paint to use to paint the interior? would the duplicolor line of interior paint hold up?

heres my donor truck, its a 76 f150 camper special i think. It has a 460 and c6 with a 9'' with 3:25 gears. I know shes some rough and i should have left it there, but it was given to me to get out of the yard. so me and my dad went down with the deck truck and drug it to the shop. i checked the coolant and oil and everthing seemed fine, the truck did however sit for 10 years, but he swears it has only 30,000 original miles. The 460 will be gone through and built just a little over stock. I may get a transmission shop to swap the internals from the small block c6 to the big block. the 76 even has factory air setup lol

Should be fun to watch. You've got a bunch of work ahead, but don't get discouraged. To paint the interior, SEM works really well. Duplicolor may work, too, but SEM has a really good rep. Good luck with the rust repair.

Ive also picked these wheels up in the classifieds. theyre 70s slotted mag wheels, they are 9'' wide. I will be stripping them and polishing them, and using the factory ford center caps.

Is the coating on the djm shackles power coating? And what would be a very mild build that would work in this truck. Would it take much work to get the 460 into mid 13s?

Yes, the shackles are powdercoated. There are numerous ET calculator's that you can find with Google. It will depend on the weight of your truck, etc, but 350-375 hp to the ground should put you in the mid-13's ballpark.

Good luck with it.

oh yea, the truck sat for 12 or so years, ran perfect when parked there however just was getting rough. they had it on a farm, a 86 year old man had it. they had it down in a field next to the salt water. Im hoping its not stuck. either way ive got a source with all kinds of blocks and early 429 stuff. is it possible to take my built small block c6 and swap everything to my 460 c6?
