Can any of you guys tell me what the benefits are to using a 5.0 out of a ford explorer? The engine in my 1994 F150 is toast after a mishap and I need to fix it. I was going to rebuild it but I saw a couple places as I searched for info about swaping to a 5.0 out of a explorer. My truck has the mass air flow computer and the automatic 4r70w transmission and it is 4x4.
Will there be a improvement over the stock 302 that is being replaced?

Mostly the heads (GT40 or GT40p) will be an improvement over the ones in our trucks (E7), the gain ranges around 15-20hp depending on the source.

 

well I guess my question is it worth the extra effort to swap to a 5.0 out of an explorer. I am needing to find a replacement engine and I am just trying to determine which way to go.

Go with the Explorer's engine, it will in any case be a more recent block, and the heads are worth it. But personally, I would take any 351 over that engine.
