Look for a light-green/yellow-stripe wire back there RH side of the center console by the HVAC & ash tray, there are 2-3 accessory plugs one of which contains that wire.
ill have to take a look at it. it should be pretty easy since i took apart the whole dash to get to the radio lol

What he is talking about may be lower than you can see from the radio area.

FWIW, my 83 didn't come with a lighter. Years later I installed one, the harness for it was pre terminated and hung down maybe 1" below the ashtray, plain as day. If that doesn't work, you could always just use a fuse tap to a constant hot circuit like the brakes. Just be sure to fuse your tapped circuit, if you go that route. No real need to fuse it if you run from cig lighter as it's already fused at the fuse block.

just wandering how this turned out? I would like to put a after market radio in also, but the po made quite a mess. I'm a little scared, I have no idea where to start. so I'm trying to find a "how to" in the older posts. There was alot of helpful information in this trend. Thanks.

Im interested as well. My 85 has the stock head with cassette and no lighter either. There are a bunch of screwed up wires under the dash where it looks like the same half assed work Ive found elsewhere.
