How many qts of transmission fluid does a 98 F150 4x4 with 4.2 take

My gasket on the transmission is leaking. How many qts of fluid do I need to change it and it is a automatic.

not sure what transmission you have, but 3.5-6 qts for a simple filter/gasket change, a complete fluid change could be anywhere between 9 and 18 qts depending on the transmission

I strongly recommend that you pull the torque converter plug and drain it too, for a full fluid change. The rubber plug in the bellhousing gives access to the plug in the TC. Then a new filter and about 11 quarts of fluid, you are set for many more years.
