1961 f100 uni short box, p71 interceptor swap

Finally going to get some work done on my 61 uni short bed!

1st picked it up

Then pulled out the 429 that was jimmy rigged in (had a blown headgasket).

Picked up a wrecked 2004 p71 interceptor for crossmember and PI motor set.

figured it would be quicker to figure out the harness now in the car instead of trying to wire it in the truck. Pretty much everything has been cut out, engine runs, also the cop cars dont have a chipped key so thats a bonus!

What parts are you all going to use off the CV? I love the look of the truck also.

Very nice Uni, although I am partial to the 385 Series engine I think that this should be an interesting swap, I'm subscribing. Keep the posts and pics coming.

I though that I read an article in a mustang magazine on the 4.6l in the mustang and the PI version and there was no difference. I will see if I can dig it up and see what their test results were again.(not saying what they wrote is correct but just an interesting read).

BTW I saw a thread in here where a guy put the uni right on the CV frame rather than doing the front cross member swap, food for thought.

The 99+ mustang came with pi heads, the 96-98 were std motors. Yep going to swap the frame in, pulled the body off today. Hope to have the frame installed next weekend.

Yesterday I notched out the cab steps & cross member to fit the frame. Then cut out the bed. Its definitely a bonus to be able to see what MarauderPU did! hope to have it dropped on next weekend. Also have an ez wire interior harness ordered, plan to make the engine harness separate from the chassis.

Always nice to have a look at what someone else did and learn from it, that's why appreciate the pics and info as everyone builds their rides. I always try to help and give tips when I am asked. Would love some pics of the wheel base alignment once you get it set on, out of curiosity what is the wheel base of the uni compared to the CV?

I love the EZ wire harness, I installed one in mine and it was very straight forward and took some time as you are re-wiring the whole truck but it works great.

Worked out great on the end, there is an engine section , rear, and interior section. Very straight forward, a little tape and some loom and clips and grommets., and well worth the money. Let me know if you have any questions.

Dman, I actually never measured either one lol. The CV is definitely a tad bit longer then the f100 though. Did you use the 21 circuit harness? I was originally going to go with a 12 but ended up ordering the 21, might end up with a bunch of unused wires lol. Thanks, I'll fire you a pm if I run into an issue, I hate wiring!!!

update, hauled the truck over to the shop yesterday and rolled the frame out on the hoist

Cut out the rear a bit more and welded up the notched cab cross-member

Rolled the new frame under it and it fit pretty good!

just finishing up front cab mounts, should have the rear mounts done tomorrow and get the truck out of the shop and back into the driveway 8-)

That looks freakin great if you ask me, now I want to do another project.lol

Yes 21 cct, but I am slowly using up some of my feeds, better to have extra than not enough. I am a sparky so electrical is a piece of cake for me, the most labour intense item I though was my steering column from my 75 F150 that I installed in it. But yes feel to ask anything.

front cab mounts welded up, it will be boxed in later. Also built the rear cab brace, will take some better pictures of the mounts later. Just trying to get the mounts done so the truck can come back out of the shop. I'll tidy up everything after.

Started on the exhaust, 2 1/2 front, with 3" out the back. I really didnt like the way it sounded so going to change up the rear and build it with smaller pipe.

front H pipe
