Wheel refinishing

Well, I am getting ready to start wire brushing, sanding, cleaning, & painting a bunch of 22.5" wheels for several of the trucks when I talk to someone at a commercial tire shop. Seems that they have a service where they blast the wheels, inspect, zinc prime, and powder coat the wheels for $25 each. Looking at all the time I put into another set of 20" wheels a few years ago, this looks like a good deal.
Has anyone here had anything like this done?

Yup, and the price quoted to you is cheap. I've had several sets done, using different local blaster/powder coaters. The place that does the nicest job charges $55 to do one of my 19.5s. Stu

I'm not exagerating when I say I have wire wheeled, sanded, primed (rustoleum rusty metal primer always) and painted over 100 wheels in my lifetime(my favorite part of a truck). I can't get to a service like that from my island, but that price might as well be free. I did 4 for my landcruiser last week, and at 'shop rate' for my cabinet shop they would have cost a small fortune. And.... I'm sure not as good as blasting and powder coating. I'd go for it in a heartbeat!

Thank you for the feedback. I am going to take them in Saturday. This seems almost too good to be true, but the guy I talked to said that they do a lot of wheels for school buses in the region.

I just bought new torque thrust wheels for mine. I always loved the look of them and I finally got a vehicle they will look nice on so I got em. I will likely sell my 15 inchers withthe bias ply still on them if anybody is interested.

Well, I dropped off 10 wheels on Saturday. They had about 60 or 70 refinished wheels waiting to be piched up - looked really good. Thay also had a number of pallets of wheels to be refinished.

This local chain has a central facility where they do the refinishing, and what I have seen their prices are based on the large volume they do. They offer finish coat in white, black, yellow, red, and grey. Mine will be gray.

Will report back when they are done - I told them no hurry.

Well, I got a call that the wheels are done. Now I just have to get the time to go and pick them up.

Well, I now have postable pictures. The wheels look as nice as new. Now to get the tires mounted. But I still want to find two good used 10R22.5 Firestome FD663's.
