Anatomy of a bronco body 87-91
Hey all....
Trying to piece it all together in hopes to find out how much I'd have to go through to save this thing.
As far as I can tell these things share the same sheetmetal from the. B posts forward. Ex: rockers, floor, lower door posts... so moving toward the back of the bronco trying to figure out where the quarter and tailgate hinge area get there strength or rigidity.
I see it starts at the jamb or b pillar? Moves on to the inner/outer wheel house. But I get lost when it comes to the rear corner just under the break lights.
granted mine is soft and weak, just wondering if I am missing a brace or a support.
Hope this makes sense.kinda tricky on the phone...maybe I can.snap a.oicture later and post it.up
thanks

The rear portion of the Bronco bed is nearly identical to the F-series below the tail lamp housings. The floor height changes just aft of the B-post to bring the floor up to the level that the F-series truck beds sat at. The tailgate pivots a bit lower than the truck gates did simply because the gate is physically thicker than the truck bed tailgates. There is some gusseting between the bottom of the aft corners that provides some rigidity for the tailgate jamb above. The bed remains open across the bottom not unlike the pick-up beds with the gate swinging down into the empty space below/behind the rear floor and between the aft corners of the bedrails where the tail light assemblies are.

I was able to eyeball an F series bed, and there might be some sheetmetal I can steel and make work...hard to see the comparison with so much of the bronco sheetmetal missing.. When I finally gazed high enough up the quarter , I could see where the inner suports used to be attached..I noticed the bed floors even seem to curve up the same way...maybe its not over just yet

right under my nose
Well, there is nothing to take a pic of on my Bronco...its that bad..
Didnt even think to look at the bed from "Big Tan"....guess its a similar set up...definately gives me some ideas, i think the inner corners just under the light s are usable and possibly the bed floor where it curves up looks the same...
gives a rough idea of how it should go
