239 Flathead for Sale -?Value

I have a 51 F1 with a 289. I like my 289 but stumbled onto a 239 for sale and I am questioning the value. 8BA on heads making it a 49-53 & from a car I believe. The intake says 8BA 8RT & B520 (or 8520 or 6520). The block is painted black, heads red and intake silver. Its obviously been repainted & the heads and block have green paint under you can see in chips. Comes w/transmission. Guy who has it took it on trade for fairlane parts for his brother who wanted it and backed out. "Supposedly" it runs but sitting on ground. Has a new altermnator bolted to it but otherwise looks like original parts and carb. All complete. Oil looks light dirty with no water. Engines turns freely.

Being he took it on trade for brother (& I know these guys a little and know his brother was looking for a 239), I believe he was convinced it ran when he took it. (He has 5 66 & earlier vehicles, all 289's. Knows a bit on horsetrading.)

Ohio location

Any help on the value of this package.

"Sitting on the floor, 'Supposedly it runs'" leaves a big wide gap. The brother wanting one and then backing out, would raise a big red flag to me. As it sits, I wouldn't go over $100 on it. If they get it running, depending on a compression test, it could be worth up to $500. (Even if it starts and runs, doesn't guarantee that it has good compression, nor does it prove that the block is not cracked or otherwise damaged.

Thats what I was afraid of. Looked online and these seem hard to find so I thougt it might be worth more. He's asking 500 but was clear it was up for negotiation.

It is definitely for sale. It does have a 12 volt alternator & coil but not mounted real well. Not sure what the transmission is. I have pics if you send an e-mail. Looking into friend of friend who cab set-up to start supposedly.

If I don't buy I will set you up to look at.
