Im not convinced on the 5.0 for a large SUV/truck, sorry. The CAFE standards are whats behind all this, not performance.

10 spd tranny for haulin? AYKM? I can hear those gears grinding now. Imaging the rebuild cost on that when you burn clutch packs etc. No thank you.

If FoMoCo is aiming at the large truck/SUV market w the Expy, they need to add the 6.7L diesel into that line up, not a small gasser block.

All this time I was expecting the redesign model to be out but I guess an update is better then nothing!
the 5.4triton is gone and replaced with the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost but the twin-turbocharged, direct-injection engine produces 370 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission so that nice but still no word on the Expedition.....

 

Looks to me like lipstick on a pig. I prefer more of the F250 front grill and bumper look.

Not some feminized softened front end for the suburban soccer mom crowd.

Well it isn't an F250 and that's who they sell them to. Seems to be the right way to go.

 

Not so sure about that. Soccer moms buy minivans. Soccer dads buy big SUV's.

 

I guess I was just expecting...*more* for some reason. A revised body, lightened possibly, a new interior style, etc. Just looks like they did a little front and rear fascia work and called it a day, externally. I like the idea of better fuel econ as long as it tows my boat acceptably well. Sigh. Was really hoping for a stellar knock out, but instead got a relatively minor brush up.

I was really expecting a full redesign like the F-150 what a shame, and still they wonder why escalades are on top of it.

 

I'm actually surprised that Ford is dropping any money into the Expy / Navi. Sales are flat and they are way too over priced. GM I'm sad to say is doing a much better job with the Taho, Suburban, Yukon and Escalade.

Ford needs a clean sheet of paper on this one.

 

I find it hard to agree that GM is doing better with their platforms. A similarly equipped Tahoe is 10% more expensive than an Expedition, and other than a fresher face the underpinnings haven't changed at all. Solid rear axle, no store flat seating in the third row. Granted Ford did that 11 MYs ago, but it is still the better set up for the majority of Expy drivers.

 

I guess the Excursion will never make a come back and Ford will sell the EX longer wheel base expy. But a 2 ton SUV with a F250 front clip plus diesel option would still be interesting.

Wonder if theres a market for it? Basically putting a cab and third row on a F250d.

 

As far as practicality, comfort, and just general usability, we love our 08 Nav. I think the interior, at the time, blew away the GM Esc/Tah/Sub triplets, by far. The ext styling and fuel econ in the GMs were better than the Nav/Exp, so Ford should have addressed the styling and fuel economy from almost a clean sheet start and gave GM a run for their money. There's no reason GM has to own this segment, at all, esp with the continued success of the F series. Ford seems happy to just ride this current design into the ground with minimal changes, which is, unfortunatley, probably end up being the demise of the Nav. The Exp should stick around, but the Nav will probably be jettisoned in favor of investing the funds into another stupid crossover. Sad.

 

There is a market for Excursions with F250 clips, I see them on ebay. Also if you do a search for "F250 Excursion front end conversion" you will see it's done a lot. You can't see the back, but this is an 03 Excursion.



For ford to get you a two ton full size SUV they would have to drop a ton. New Expy's are 6,000lb.

The only, and I mean the only, reason I dont buy one is because I dont think I can fit it in my garage. Here in the northern suburbs outside of Chicago...you dont want your vehicle outside in -20 degrees or buried in snow...

My house is an old colonial and the 2 car garage just barely fits my expy and my wifes minivan...next to my old harley chopper and .... required snow blower of course

Yep, there is a desire to have that combo. In fact there is a 2012 f with the 6.7 being built into an excursion in the excursion folder of FTE by one of the members there. Documented with pics of the process as he moves along. Very fascinating work. There a more and more of these custom builds being made. As for an X fitting in the garage I think the Expy sits 4" shorter, maybe slightly more than the Xcursion.
