5.0 or 3.5 Ecoboost mpg's

I've never heard of the Ecoboost getting worse fuel economy than the 5.0L given equally configured trucks. There are cases where the Ecoboost doesn't get nearly as good economy as expected (like in my case).
It appears to me that rear axle gearing plays a huge role in Ecoboost fuel economy potential. People like me with 3.73 gears take a big penalty on freeway numbers. But I get just as good city numbers as the next guy -- maybe even better when considering my truck is on the high end of weight scale.

I do not know what engine I want yet cause I plan on doing a 2in. or 3in. lift down the road and I don't know what engine will give me the better mileage after I do the mod.

I planned on getting the 3.73 gears w/ either engine.

I assume you're planning for taller tires? I don't know which will be a better fuel sipper in that scenario but I do know which one will have better driving manners. Ecoboost has a significant advantage in low- and mid-range torque and it will feel more "normal" with big tires.
The other thing I'll point out is if you gotta have a good rumble then don't buy the Ecoboost. There isn't a single manly noise from under my hood. It's just quiet authority.

I'd go with the larger engine. The fuel mileage is probably somewhat similar as long as your not sitting idling a lot.

Goldstar225 Is yours a 4x4 and what gears do you have?
