1999 f250 5.4L electrical problem NEED HELP

Ive had this truck for a little over a year now.. haven’t had any problems until now, one of the biggest problems I’ve ever had with a truck/car...

one day driving the truck it randomly shut off, I had recently changed the battery so I didn’t think it was a problem with that.. So I took the alternator out and had it checked, they said it was fine.. put it back together, drove it anyway and it still shut off acouple miles down the road. So I bought a new alternator and changed the battery terminals and the truck still wants to shut off... I am at a loss now, NEED HELP!

Check all of your grounds!!!

When the truck shuts off, can you start it right back up, or does it act like the battery is dead? Does it require battery charging time or do you let it sit for a while and retry? We need more details or its going to be wild guesses.

So how does it shut off. Like you turned the key off? Gas pedal does nothing? Or does it seem like the fuel gets cut off and you can get a few feet running?.
Truck will run without battery.. And will run without alternator. Not the first thing I would have looked at.

I put a jump starter pack on the battery to start it, but the only thing keeping the truck running at that point is the charging pack.

I don’t understand how these forums work if I’m even replying the right way, but this truck will just loose charge power down the road, defiantly not a mechanical problem it’s somthing with the electrical part

I always use my jumper pack to start it the battery usually dies after a couple miles . It will just loose all power and turn off then I can’t start it again with out my jumper.

This smells like a bad ground. Check for continiuity between the alternator and the battery neg side using your multi meter.

This!!!

Many years ago I owned a FedEx Ground truck and route. While on vacation I had the terminal mechanic install two new batteries in the truck. A couple of days after my return to work the truck would just shut itself off. Sometimes would start right back up, sometimes not. It ended up being the mechanic damaged the ground wire during the install and vibration would cause a complete break inside the sheathing. I replaced the wire, called him to thank him for nothing and told him I would pay him his invoice minus the new cable and three hours of my labor rate. So he didn’t get a cent.

As stated, grab a multimeter and check all the grounds.

Measure truck running over 14v at battery. If not alt or wiring

As I said in my first post, this is almost surely a ground issue. You need to check and re-check all of them. Disconnect each and wire wheel the metal til its shiny. Check for any issues where the ground may have been broken.

Your grounds aren't secured and its causing the battery to not charge. That's why the alternator will test good if you pull it off.

Wow so what you are saying is the battery runs down then the truck shuts off...happens all the time when the charging system isnt working. Usually the alt light is on. Check key on for alt bulb check.
The bulb needs to be there to charge..If comes on and goes out when running then you have a wire issue from alt to battery most likely.

Charging system failure. While it *might* be a "ground" problem, those are very long odds.

Check alternator function.
