flywheel for '86 351W
I'd like to use the 351W from an '86 Grand Marquis with a '71 truck bellhousing and NP435. I don't have the '71 flywheel, but I have a clutch set. (This is going into a '57 Ford panel truck)
The question is: will a '70s 302/351W flywheel work (28 oz balance), or should it be a later 351W ('83 to '94) flywheel? It seems to me the early flywheel should work, but a local machine shop told me an 86 engine needs a different flywheel because of the one-piece seal.
Most of the possible flywheels are 164 teeth, but there are some different diameters: 14.25", or 14.215, or 14.313" OD. That confuses me.
The Grand Marquis engine comes with an AOD, but since the truck is already set up for a four-speed I'd rather keep it that way.
There's also an '85 F250 parts truck with a smoky 351W and 4 speed I could get for a couple hundred $, which starting to sound like a better idea since I'd get everything from one year.
Thanks for your help!
Think I'll just put a 223 six in for now. At least the van will move, just not very fast.
I still wouldn't mind knowing which flywheel to use with an 86 351W and a 71 bellhousing, if someone reading this knows.
