Truck rolled off flatbed towtruck!!!

well this really put a kink in my neck! So I have been working my **** getting the truck ready Fab Fords.....Electrical ALL done!! Called the local tow service to haul it to the upholstery guy in Temecula. While BS'ng with the upholstery guy the tow truck driver is unhooking the truck and the next we know we hear a loud BOOM!! He didn't have a safety chain hooked up and my daughters truck rolled off the back of the flatbed!!! We ran over and stopped the truck from rolling completely off.

Damage:
Side mount/Aux tank smashed and destroyed, fuel pickup/sending unit hole warped so much it popped it out of the tank
Drive shaft from carrier bearing to rear axle destroyed.
Passenger side and driver side of bed righ behind the cab bent up and paint chipped.
My brand new custom exhaust ....the two flowmaster's dented.....very noticeably.

we were just sick and cannot believe this happened UGH!

OK so quick questions....I need to replace the gas tank as part of the restore I had the CAB tank removed and was using the side tank as primary. I cant even remember where I bought th esending unit for the side tank...any clues?

Where can I get the drive shaft?

The towing company says they will make it right...they want me to price out the replacement / repair then give them a chance to fix it themselves?? I don't want them touching my truck. this is a custom weekend truck not a grocery getter. UGH!!

Wow

You might try sending a pm to Steve (ChaseTruck754) Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - View Profile: ChaseTruck754
He's got a lot of stuff, not sure if it's for your year or not but he might be able to point you in the right direction if it isn't.

I'm with you...I wouldn't let that tow company touch a damned thing besides their checkbook.

Really sorry to hear about this, Chris

Thanks Steve I sent him a message. I found the replacement tank/sending unit online at LMCParts.....any ideas if this is a good one or just a cheap thin non-USA repro?

LMC is a reseller, usually anything you find in their catalog can be found elsewhere cheaper. Check around with NPD or any other parts catalogs and see if you can find your parts. Unfortunately unless you find a NOS tank and sending unit the ones available will be a cheap repop regardless of vendor

Thanks Dave,

looks like its wrecking yards for the tank replacement and the drive shaft replacement as well. Such a dang drag to have to redo all this work. It's not looking good for Fab Fords now

Unless the tow company is part of a real shop i wouldnt let me work on my truck. I would take my truck to a shop get a quote for parts and labor and send that to the tow company and let a shop handle everything. I wouldnt want to do that work that someone else caused, if they put up a fuss i would just tell them then you will contact your insurance who will deal with them from that point on.

I would still check parts catalogs for that tank and see if you can buy one even if it is a repop. The PYP up here drills holes in the tanks of all of their trucks

Same here, since they can't leave them in the yard with fuel in them. Same with oil pans.

X2
I hope you took pictures or some one did. Also from this point forward I wouldn't let the towing company any where near the vehicle. Years ago I worked for a large toing company, and it seemed that if they damaged something (like on a PD impound where an inventory sheet was made) the damage that they did always seemed to have been there prior to the impound, and would show up on the CHP/San Diego PD. inventory form. Now I wonder how that happened?
