Same here. My wife is wanting a baby pig & cow. In other words she wants me to buy her a pet that will wind up being mine then butchered. The goats I had, I managed to sell them then the money I made I spent on fixing my riding mower. Donkeys will clear a fence line a lot better & can actually be use to work.
One of them I will if I can find a motor, trans & ECM for it all.
Never had any inclination for farm animals.. although the thought of a few cows doesn't sound so bad. Just don't think I'm ready to be called "farmer-joe"
She was wanting a cow for a while but a few of those conversations ending up with "we dont have the land for a cow", she stopped talking about it. All the different kinds of animals I have & had (dog, chicken, goats, donkeys & something else) were more or less jumped into. My father inlaw & myself put up my fence in 15 hours, minus the 2 big corners) just beace I was getting the donkeys that weekend. Any new type of animal will be planned for. I am considering a couple pigs BUT I have to get some form of "slop income" for them since I dont want to raise them up on straight corn. I am planning on picking up a couple sheep later this year to help the donkeys with the lawn mowing & fence clearing.
Good Afternoon Arkansas, Joe!!! We are on the downward slide to the WEEKEND!! Woot WOOT!!
Speaking of animals, you guys still have wild boars in Arkansas correct? Do they taste anything near regular pigs? Like if you smoke them , do they taste like normal pork BBQ?
Wild hogs aren't regulated by the Game and Fish, therefore they are pretty much open game as long as you have permission from the landowner to take them.
Is it legal to sell the meat or do they have to be domesticated? Is it kind of like that show on tv, "American Hoggers" ? They seem to just be able to kill as many ferrel hogs as they want. Not saying tv is all true, I just don't have a point of reference.
Back when I lived in Phillips Co. (on the Mississippi River), I dont ever recall anyone talking about them. Just talk about the gators. Up here, North Logan Co/south Johnson Co. several people I know have talked about & complained about wild hogs. Some even getting into their hog pens & mating with sows. Also folks talking about seeing gators around here.

I've got a buddy here in town that deer hunts down around Sheridan. This past fall instead of going after the deer on their lease, they went after the feral hogs that are tearing everything up. He bagged boar that he's since smoked most of the meat (didn't offer any to me ). He said it was pretty good, but had a gamey taste to it. He says they hope to get most of them this fall so the deer heard will have something to eat for coming years.
