04 f350 6.0l got some shifting issues

Hey guys.. first post here..

Got an ▲▲▲ I got for a $1000 needs some body work.. but first I need to make sure its mechanically good.

So this truck wont crank with the key. I have use a screwdriver and just usethe soldenoid to start it. Runs good. Its on blocks no tires. When I got the truck I was hard to move in the beginning, reverse worked good moved the truck no problem but forward it was hard to move. We got truck out of the snow and after that it seemed to drive normal. Now that I have it on blocks and checking everthing i found some issuess.

The tow/haul light flashes,
reverse lights dont go on when put in reverse.
When I put it in drive its in its highest gear right away. Moving the shifter down to 1 or 2 doesnt change anything. Idling itll do 20km/h (on blocks) and when I step on it, itll do 160kmh. And you never see or hear it shift.

I put a code reader to it.
Got p0706, p0707 and p1705 or something dont exactly remember. But they all had errors about the transmission range sensor..

Ive read and read and read other posts but just want to make sure that this sensor is my issue. would this sensor cause these issues/symptoms.

Also. Is this sensor inside or outside the tranny. I went to ford. Wanted $180 for the sensor and it mounts outside and I can see it on my tranny aswell. But online I read its inside the tranny?

Please school me some more. Am I looking at the right things?

Thanks

If it is a 2004 6.0L the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) is inside the pan. The sensor could be the problem, and so could the wiring between the sensor and the PCM.

So ive not yet had time to pull the pan or even look at the truck but I did go to a ford dealership and napa to look if they had the part.. they both had it.. ford wants $180 and napa wants $100. But the part they are giving me goes on the outside of the tranny. Its a black part with a big connector on the side and I do have this part on my tranny.. do I have a 5r110? Is thus the right part or are they crazy?

When I look on ebay I found a range sensor that look more like it goes on the inside.. looks like a metal thing with ridges and.. haha I suck at explaining.

So my question does ford and napa have the right part or not?

If we are talking about a 2004 6.0L automatic then the trans is a 5R110 and the TRS is inside the pan. The TRS outside the pan on the side of the trans was used on the 4R100. The 4R100 was still used in 2004 with the gas engine trucks, so that may be where they are confused. Diesels had the TRS inside the trans in 2004.

That's a TRS. What engine do you have?

Ford never installed a different automatic trans behind the 6.0L, no matter where in the world it was sold.

So I replaced the trs with a used one from another truck. . And I just tried putting in reverse to see if light went on but it didnt. Do i have to put the pan back and and put fluid in there and start it to see id it works or does it work what I tried to do with reverse lights. If so I read that it could be the wiring that screwed up.. what would be a common place for that to happen? Inside or outside the tranny? Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

I read something about the cooling fan clutch electrical issues causing no start/no crank and popping the tr sensor codes like p0707. Could this also create the no reverse and stuck in 3rd gear symptom?
