What rims can I use, temporarily after I get the truck? They don't have to be correct.

 

That's the problem. You have the 14" rear drums that needed the 17" wheel for clearance reasons. Only one other period 17" wheel was made which was used on Chevies/GMCs, but they have a 4.56" center hole where you need a 4.875" hole on the rear. They won't clear your hub. We've been told that modern 90s era Dodges used 17s that work, as long as you are ok with use of wider wheels. They still had the 8 x 6.5" bolt pattern. You might check with Mudd Duck down in Centerville to see what they have. The best replacements are the 17.5" or 19.5" that we've discussed here a lot, but they take some looking. Stu

 

The hood ornament looks very similar to a 50 Packard ornament

 

The swan I can find... not sure what the base is off of, if you look closely.

 

What color scheme do you think that truck was? All green? Chrome or Painted grill?

 

Bob is a horrible influence.. think I've hauled home at least 2 or 3 batches of random truck parts from him over the years.. think the vast majority of my sheetmetal came from his donor trucks =P

Also, check and see what rims are on it already, my F-3 came with 16 inch (F-2) rims on it. I don't believe they were stock, but someone before me beat me to the change over.

Also an easy swap in the rear is the pre-72 Dana 60 out of a F-250. Below is a link to a few pictures of my axle going in. Also, going the dana 60 route does give you a few options if you ever want disc brakes

Hey Guys. I am a newbie here (2nd post) and I am Clssy56's (Travis) dad. We work together in the drilling business and are buying this truck together to keep it stock as a tribute to my father-in-law, Lyle Henry, who also had his own drilling business early in his life. Anyway, we will post pics of the F3 after he picks it up this weekend.

You can buy the stainles steel trim bars for the front grill. That's the only way to go if you're trying to keep it stock as possible. Part #7C-8200-KT, they sell for around $180. The grill is painted different colors. I think '48 was painted beige, '49-50 is painted argent silver. I painted the grill on my '49 beige because I liked it better than the silver and it makes the stainless pop.

If you know your grandpa's truck was green I would think that's also the only way to go with color. Find someone to hand letter the doors, vinyl letter is going to look cheezy.
