Wow. That seems like a lot of work for only 90k miles. My advice would be to completely ignore the odometer reading and check into everything else to determine which is the best motor. Even the "high" mileage OBS motor has less than half the miles I have on my 7.3

Correct. SD fuel system is dead headed, not returned other than through the FPR on the fuel bowl. Upgrading is easy since it still has the same 2 forward and same 2 rear plugs in the fuel rail to hook everything up.

Im doing exactly what you are proposing here! I kave a 2k engine and plan on a 38r and pretty much a sd puking in my engine bay. I have the engine torn down and at the machine shop getting checked to see what is needed since I know nothing of the engine.
That return deal for sd is interesting.I have not seen that before but it is WAY cheaper than other methods since we have the sd fuel filter housings.

Travis is running a SD pump with around 500hp, with 180/80 or 180/100 singleshots, I can never remember. IIRC that's about the max for them. Stage 2's will put you over 450 pretty easily. I'm not too familiar with hybrids.

Glenn and I have basically the same setup, except he has stage 2's and I have ones. Another 3-4 weeks and you can get a report on how these setups work towing, egt's, etc. We both tow about 16k. I don't know how soon you're looking at doing the work, just sayin'. I don't know how the 38r compares to the S366 we have, that would really be your only difference.
Ya I am leaning towards just doing stage 1s and the 38r and being done with it. Less EGT issues, more reliable, less strain on turbo, and plenty of power for me. From some research I've done, I don't think I will be pulling as much boost as you get Darin. 30psi will be fine by me. I am not in a huge hurry to get this all done, I might wait and see how happy you guys are with the setup while towing.

For sure it is alot of work, but I'm not worried about that. My OBS motor puts out quite a cloud of crank case ventilation when idling. It has always bugged me. Now that I have compared it to the SD, I can see I have much more blow-by on the OBS than SD. I am def gonna do a compression check on both and see for sure. It runs great, seems to have good power but also 90k miles is about 6 years or so for me. I have intentions of keeping this truck on the road for many, many years to come. I don't drive it a lot but when I do, I'm towing very heavy (18-20K) and long distances.

Sweet! I am really liking the thought of the 38r. I think I am def gonna stay with the stock SD fuels system and add that reg return system. Things are starting to come together for me for this swap. Hopefully all goes well for both of us!!

Well that was my first plan but if I do stage 2s 160/80s I would need to do HPOP for sure right? And if I have to do HPOP I might as well got to Hybrids for the price and use them tuned down and not do the HPOP. Lol I am torn on what injectors to do. Sooooo many combinations.

I suppose I can always try it and if the HPOP can't cut it I can put a new one on it then. I'm gonna check compression this weekend and if all checks out on the SD motor, its going in the OBS!!
