NY's April 2013 BS thread

About a year ago, they started responding with a one person crew. The other night, we had the first guy on scene in about 20 minutes, but they had to call in 3 more along with getting the materials that they were going to need to do the work.

Neil down here when we have an incident we have to request either gas or electric even though they are the same company. Different crews respond.

The gas emergency crews usually have 3-4 guys same with the electric side. Gas side depending on the issue will bring 2 or 3 crews and a bobcat and even a backhoe if needed.

There not. We had a tree that came down and partially blocked the road. Electric wires were involved so we called for NYSEG to come in and remove the tree. A one man crew showed up and it took him about an hour to clear the tree when it would have been about 20 minutes tops with a 2 man crew. It is all cost savings.

Same here, seperate crews for gas and electric. The only gas that we have running through the district is a 36" high pressure transmission line that is owned by some other company and they have their own response crews.

We have the transmission lines like that. And most bldgs run on natural gas in my area for cooking, heating and hot water. The city also has 3 high capacity natural gas tanks.

On any wire call, we will remain on scene until the crew says that we can return. Most of the time, it is to help with traffic control and sometimes lighting at night.
