unsure of what engine is in my ford

i recently became a proud owner of a 60 2 door falcon wagon. i have been under the impression that the engine is a 144 according to the aircleaner. i had a bit of trouble finding a new pcv valve for it. in which i was told that my car should have a dump tube, instead of a pcv valve. also that the cylinder head is from a 200 because the throttle linkage does not sort of fit, causing the throttle to be stuck partly open. earlier this evening, i found online photos of the 144 and my engine does not even look close to it. so my question, is how can i tell exactly what i have.

Post some pics of it. I believe what you may have is a 240 i believe it is. Or it may be a 260 i cant remember. Back in the.60s.and early 70s.many of.these.cars were.changed from the.stock motor.to th WV e mustang straight 6. They.were easier to find and had nearly 45hp gain so instead of.speandimg.the.money.to rebuild the.144 or the 200 they were. swapped.i hope this.helps plus the.parts are.interchangeable

1961/64 Falcon's came with either 144 or 170 I-6 engines. 200 I-6 introduced in Falcon's in 1965.

240 I-6 installed in 1965/74 F100/600's and 1965/71 Galaxie/LTD's, were not installed in any other Passenger Car.

In order to install a 240 in a Falcon, a HUGE hole would have to be cut in the firewall, as it's quite a bit longer than the 144/170/200 I-6's.

250 is another I-6, looks similar to 200's. Was first installed in 1969 Mustang/Fairlane/Torino/Comet.

All 144/170/200/250 I-6's have the intake manifold made as part of the cylinder head.

260 is a V8, introduced in 1962 Fairlane/Meteor, first Falcon's to come with it: 1963 1/2 Sprint hardtops and ragtops.

1961 was the first year for PCV, so no 1960 or earlier vehicle will have it.
