New engine swap, no throttle response.
I'd like to thank everyone in advance for any help you can give me.
I finally put a new crate motor I'd been dragging around with me since 1996. Long story. I had previously posted concerns about using the new motors cam since it was an HO motor. I bought and installed a new truck cam factory specs. I did my due diligence when swapping motor. Since new crate motor had sat so long I replaced all seals, gaskets except head gaskets. Installed new cam and HD roller chain and sprockets. Rebuilt fuel injectors and repaired engine wiring loom. Replaced all sensors and senders, except Knock sensor. I rebuilt my blower(powerdyne). Re-installed everything and it went like clockwork. New O2 sensor and CAT.
I had to rush near the end due to needing spinal surgery. The night before my surgery I fired the Truck up and it started OK, but no throttle response. My problem is after surgery, I need to use my daughter and son in-law as my mechanics(they try very hard, they just don't have the knowledge or experience). Their time is very limited and I must try and use them wisely. I found today where I had left some electrical connections ie. the starter relay loose. I charged the battery, still no luck.
Here are my thoughts before I go forward and welcome feedback.
1. While I have not hooked up my code reader. No codes or engine lights flashing. 2. Engine sounds like it is in safe mode, it barely responds to throttle, no tach., but I know it's not going over 1,500rpm. Than if left to idle it stalls.
Could timing be off enough to run, but not accelerate? Could I have a defective TPS(new)? Could I have not installed the TPS correctly, sadly I didn't verify it before installing Throttle Body. Can I ck timing with SPOUT connected just to be sure I'm close or does it have to be disconnected? I realize I'm answering my own questions as I ask them, however if anything jumps out as an obvious problem, PLEASE let me know. I will be starting PT for my back and really don't want to take para-transit. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
If the TPS is not installed correctly, the tabs on it will not move with the throttle body. Engage the tabs of the sensor with the throttle shaft blade, then rotate it clockwise to align it with the screw holes. Not doing this, can result in high idle issues. I'm not sure if it can cause other problems.
I will have my son-In law mark the 10 degree BTC mark on the pulley and we'll ck timing w/o the SPOUT connected. I'm going to have him pull apart the TPS connector and we'll test for change in resistance when throttle is opened. I suspect that is my problem and am kicking myself for not bench testing it before installing throttle body since it's necessary to pull the throttle body to r&r the TPS. Lessons learned ...
I'll let you know the results hopefully by the end of the weekend.
Thanks!
