Well I guess Im gonna have to do my own trial and error on this one if no one has an answer for my swap question!!!
I cant beleive I am the olny one with an 04 that wants to do this swap. I must be the only one that has the sport mirrors in 04... lol...
Ohh well ... I guess I will just buy the mirrors and go to town ...

Thanks.

I am looking to upgrade my mirrors to the telescoping mirrors as well. I can't believe that Ford would even offer these small not good for much mirrors

ok, so im doing this swap on my 2001. It has no power mirrors at all.So.... the new wiring to the mirrors is easy to follow from your post! But i need to know the wiring to the new mirror switch im installing. 8 pins, 4 for each mirror. There is suppost to be two yellow, red and blue. The colors are not so important since im not matching any wires up to these last connections but i do need to know which pin on the switch does what? It isnt in the ford wiring diagrams anwhere.Anyways, i could use a little help.

First I have to say thanks to Karic as this would have been much more difficult had he nt done the writeup.
Next, I'll say I matched his 4.5 hours. I went in thinkin' I could clear it in two, but it is a bit more difficult than I thought. Nothing that wasn't worth it though. I went from the goofy under-sized "sport" mirrors to these spankin' new tows with signal and heat! Great and much-needed mod.
And finally, a few more details to make it even easier for the next to tackle this popular mod.
I went to the Ford dealer and was speaking to the parts guy about the adapters as I was sure I had the older "round" plug on my '02. As he was stating that he did not have the part and Ford didn't make it available unless you buy the mirrors from them, another parts guy just happened to be walking by and said he saw a few of the adapters laying around a few days ago. A little time searching and he found them. Four total, two color codes, one for each side. I told them I'd take one of each. He went to write them up and it's true... Ford doesn't offer them separate as they aren't in the computer to be sold. The good part is he said take them for free. When does this ever happen at a stealer??!! They just happened to have them after a service guy brought them back after installing mirrors on a truck that didn't need them. Anyways, I also got some pins to add the heat, signal and running lamps to the harnesses.
Long story short, My truck ended up having the new style, so I didn't need the harness adapters anyway... Glad they were free!
Here's the helpful part:
Adapter part numbers: Left: 1C3Z 14A411 BA
Right: 1C3Z 14A411 AA
Just check at the Ford dealer parts desk. Be courteous and let them know what you are doing and ask them to help. If they can't find them in the system, just explain that Ford ships the adapters with the new mirrors and most of the time they are not needed by the service dept. and ask if they could pull them from the mirror box. Expect to pay, as I think I got real lucky.
You'll need to add pins or use butt connections or solder like Karic said. For a clean install, I used the pins. I couldn't find the PICO ones he described so I picked them up at the dealer. Ford makes the pins available with a small length of wire already attached and soldered. Just pull the lock from the connector and add the needed pins and put the lock back in. They were about $2 a piece. I needed 4.
Pins w/ wire part number: 105401
Thanks again, Karic. And good luck to anyone who tackles this mod. You'll love it when it's done!

i have a pair of the adapters from my mirrors that are still in the plastic sealed up. pm me if interested...wow, they even come with 2 ford black wire ties...i think the adapters are for trucks that never had the heated part.
