Fuel Shut Off (Inertia) Switch Tripped?
Yesterday morning my truck wouldn't start. I didn't hear the fuel pump running (front or rear) when the key was turned on, though I did hear the relay click. I keep a spare fuel pump relay in the glovebox (along with coil & coil wire) so I popped that in, hoping that even though I heard the relay "click" maybe the relay was the issue. I've had that damn relay for like 8 years, would have been nice to finally justify, haha. Still wouldn't start. I checked the fuel rail for pressure just by depressing the shraeder valve, and there was nothing there. Both pumps (and tanks) have been replaced in the last 50k miles, fuel filter about a year back.
Then I remembered the fuel safety shutoff switch, so I popped the panel off and pushed on the reset switch. It didn't seem like it had been triggered as nothing really happened when I reset it, and I certainly haven't hit anything recently (or while I parked the evening before). Anyway, the truck started right up after pushing on the non-tripped reset button. I hopped in and drove 350 miles home, no issues since.
Any speculation on why that would happen? Would moisture cause this? My door seals aren't in great shape but nothing looks wet around there.
Oh the truck is a 96 F150 SCSB 5.8 E4OD 4x4 with ~203000 miles.
Thanks
