Hey everyone I’m kind of new to the forum and need some help. I have a 2000 Ford Excursion and my truck sways side to side when I am driving and is making some sound as if there are loose joints in the front. It seems the faster I go the harder it is to control. It seems like whenever I attempt to go straight I have to almost immediately turn the steering wheel either left or right to make it go straight. If I go over a speed hump or hit a crack in the road I hear the loose joint noise. I took it to a two different Ford dealers and a local shop and they told me my wheel hubs are fine, my tie rods are fine, and my gear box is fine. I also just replace all of my shocks. I’m planning on driving it down to Florida in two months and would like to have this fixed. Does anyone know of a good Ford specialist shop in the DC, MD or VA area I can go to.

Check your rear wheel bearings. I've had luck at Apple Ford in Columbia, MD.

I wouldn't drive it much in that condition... you might find yourself in the ditch - at best!

 

Apple Ford was one of the dealers I took it to. Any other suggestions or maybe you can give me the name of the rep you dealt with.

 

Sorry it was too long ago....but it's hard to believe that they tested the truck and gave up on it! Did they DRIVE it?


As I said... jack up the rear end and see if either or both of the rear wheels bearings are bad. If as bad as you say, the wheels should be really unstable.

 

Yes they did a test drive. But I will jack up the rear and check the bearings.

Check the rack and pinion coupling joint between the steering shaft and the rack.

 

FYI guys I found out the issue with the steering. It was the gear box.
