1966 f100 4x4
I'm Jake, semi new to the forums haven't posted before but have used the vast amount of knowledge to repair some of my other ford.
I'm currently looking at buying a 66 f100 4x4 390 4spd that doesn't have power steering or disc brakes. The current drum brakes are more or less shot so was looking for the procedure to convert it to disc. As I understand it I need a donor truck that's a 76 f100 4x4 and that's the only one that will work?
And was wondering how much of this guide still applies to 4x4's
Front Drum To Disc Brake Conversion Guide For 1965-1972 Ford Trucks .: Articles
Found this, wanted to know if its a better rout to take, finding a 76 4x4 for cheap isnt easy.
Checked all my local junk yards and came up dry.
Been checking CL regularly for the last 2 weeks (auto parts & cars&trucks) and this is the only worthy parts truck I can find and I believe he wants an absurd amount of money for it.
76' Ford f100 4x4 granny gear
(there are trucks I can drive home for the same price)
Any info and help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks Jake.

I am not to sure what years will work for the front axle, but I think any of the trucks up to 77 that have disc brakes should work. Tape measure checks to see how they would work.
As far as power steering goes, a 77 Bronco power steering box is one way. I did mine differantly using aToyota box, it was cheao and works very good.

On sale day, 352/360's magically become 390's!
1976: First year disc brakes were available with 4WD (standard equipment). Same parts: 1976 F100 4WD; 1976/79 F150 4WD; 1978/79 Bronco. 2WD disc brakes will not work on 4WD's.
1976 was the last year that F100's were available with 4WD.
1973: First year P/S was available (optional) with 4WD, but only Power Assist P/S was available thru 1975 (F100, 1975 F150).
Power Assist: The manual steering gearbox is used, as it has nothing to do with P/S.
Two long P/S hoses, pressure & return, route from the pump to the control valve. Two short P/S hoses, pressure & return, route from the control valve to the ram cylinder.
All the parts are obsolete, no one reproduces them. A few parts are available NOS.
