89 f250 460 burning oil like crazy 4 quarts to a tank of gas

I bought this truck off an old farmer a few weeks ago had been sitting I know 2 years it has 68,000 original miles on it truck runs great hasn't lost any power or anything but it burns oil bad with in 200 miles it will burn every bit of 4 quarts of oil it rarely smokes like it will only smoke if I get on it real hard. I just don't understand it why its doin it like its doin it. it runs strong hasn't lost any power at all

i would start by checking compression. can you see any leaks? what color are the spark plugs?

When I Park it it doesn't leak anything on the ground at all. I haven't checked compression yet all the plugs looked good except for one. I have had quite a few trucks with big blocks in em this is the only one I have ever had problems out of. I have had a 94 fuel injected it didn't use a drop of oil at all the others were all older carb motors. I have been told the early fuel injected big blocks like this one was a common problem burning oil like this. I Kurt don't know if its worth trying to fix or if it would be better to pull this motor and get a mid 80s carb motor

I'm sure that if the truck was sitting, the rings on at least one cylinder siezed into the wall and when you started it they broke loose and are letting all kinds of oil through. You should definitely check compression.

That's what I was thinking. One of those rings was probably bonded to the cylinder wall when that thing was first started up and it broke that ring. If it is an oil ring, it will probably still get good compression, but that cylinder wall is probably getting scored up while it is running.
