2005 F250 steering question
Hi, I have imported a 2006 F250 from Africa to Scotland. I believe these trucks were also sold in Australia. It has the 4.2 MWM engine.
Can anybody answer a small question, does the power steering turn the wheels effortlessly at idle (750rpm)?
It has failed it's first Mot (roadworthy inspection) today because of this reason. If the speed is increased to 1200rpm it works. It has a gear driven pump which is at the bellhousing end of the engine.
As the nearest place I can get a recon pump is from Australia, the other side of the world for me, at a cost of $1600 I would like to know if this is normal for these F250's.
I do not want to go to all the bother of shipping a new pump from the other side of the world to fix a problem which can't be fixed as this is how they work normally.
If the pump had been fixed at the front of the engine as normal I could have made one from another vehicle fit, but as it is a special gear driven one this is not possible, and the brake booster is part of the system.
Does anybody know the pressure and flow for these pumps?
If I can prove to the mot inspector that this is how they are from new I might get it passed.
We have checked everything and it is the pump that is not making enuff grunt to do the job. Have even put 70psi in the tyres to get it to pass but this doesn't work either ha ha.
Cheers
