Where Do I Put the Turn Signals?
#17
Hi Ray, I didn't vote yet because I am not sure, yet. After much thought I, myself, would not put them on the cowl. As someone said earlier if they are on the cowl another driver might not be able to see both signal lights. I have never seen in PA turn signals on the cowl.... My truck had them on top of the fenders. When I painted the truck I put the TS in the parking lights.
So, Ray, I would say either on top of the fenders or put a dual filament bulb and socket in your parking lights. It is up to you and what look you want for this truck.
I think I will go vote now!

Being 12v, once the transplant is done, I don't think there will be any problem seeing them on the cowl, and people on the side of you can see them too. When the headlights are on, I worry how visible the TS's are on mine. A whole lot less wiring with them there, too. If you put some on the side of the bed that flashed with the TS's, it would be even better.

Well I wasn't even going to post as "original equipment version" would be my selection, but isn't there to vote on and it's not what Ray is looking for. I've always kept my trucks stock which meant one tail light and my left arm for a turn signal. I know, I know, it's not the safest thing to do with the calibre of drivers these days. But I've never been hit, never endured road rage, and have a few good stories of being pulled over by overzealous, young police officers.

I kind of like them on the cowl, its different and somehow looks right on a big truck like yours. The tops of the fenders is kind of cool but could be a major pain when working under the hood.
I would also convert the original single filament parking light sockets to duel filament sockets and use them in conjunction with the cowl lamps.
Good luck

I think this is the route I'll go. The safety advantage of the "Muth" signals into mirrors support, getting the signal in a position where it us more visible. Not a more visible place than right out there on the cowl.
I don't like seeing the light atop the fenders and that position really would make servicing the engine a real PIA.
Down on the bumper would be a bit too low to be readily seen, I believe. Although they could be put on a stalk.
For those suggesting a turn signal incorporated into the headlight. That is too modern looking for this old truck, a look I am trying to avoid. Safety upgrades, yes. I will run stock halogen headlights.
I will probably convert the parking lights to dual filament, perhaps LEDs as well.
Thanks to all who commented, suggested and possibly voted.

My first choice would be for the parking light conversion, or else a pair of these mounted on top the fenders: http://www.bigmacktrucks.com/store/i...20(Medium).JPG
