new to me 1992 flareside
So I posted something similar over in the " other" section just doesn't.get much traffic over tger and Idk if its truly a "nite"
So I picked up a 1992 302 v8 automatic flareside. Truck is in great condidtion in my oinion the only reason I even think it might be a nite(or even knew about the "nite") is my brother in law claims it is since.its blacked out but the.previous owner could have very easily done.this it doesn't have the purple/pink stripe (thankfully) and it lacks the "nite" badge on the dash again could have been removed by previous owner honestly Idc if itvis or jot but is there any way to tell via the vin or anything like that?
Now the only issue I've cone.across is what I've been told is the tps again my brother in law. So the symptoms are as follows: ill be driving along and the accelerateion starts to sputter like I'm going to stall or outta gas. If I release the pedal and.re apply its gos away if I stomp the pedal it pushes thru nd if I just continue and hold.thegas pedal in the same.postion it will eventually push thru the jerky sputteringness with in a few seconds and carry on like.no issues.
Another note:I would like to increase hp any suggestions are welcome as far as I know everything is completely stock with the exception a cut exhaust right behind the cab

Does the truck have the original owners manual? That might indicate whether or not it's a "Nite" edition. But as you already know, there should be a badge on the dash for that. This thread will help you figure it out:

As for the difficulties you're having, it does sound like the TPS is the culprit, but pull the diagnostic trouble codes to find out for sure:
Fuel Injection Technical Library » How To Run a Self-Test
If that method proves too difficult, a code reader is only about $30 and worth the investment.

My truck is a 91 and I've still got the original manual.
I got my code reader from O'Reilly. I think it was about $35 total, but even going up to $40, they're still worth the investment, in my opinion. This is what I've got:
Equus Innova 3145 - Digital Code Reader | O'Reilly Auto Parts
Because of the process for pulling KOER codes, you'll need an extension cord to be able to sit in the driver seat and operate the truck and the code reader at the same time. Don't waste money on the "special" extension cord they make for these code readers- you can do it yourself. I made mine from 3 strands of 16 gauge wire and some male/female spade connectors.

There's a lot of vehicle mods that don't make sense... unless you're the one that wants it. I once saw a geo metro with a grill guard for an 80's era chevy mounted on the front. And it wasn't like they bent and formed it to the front end of the metro- it was just mounted, sticking straight up like it would be if it were on a pick up. Made no sense to me at all- but apparently, at one point in time, it seemed like a good idea to the owner of that geo metro!

Did you reset the computer when you changed the TPS? Because if not, you need to. Unhook the battery for 15 minutes to reset the computer and clear the trouble codes. Then take the truck on a 15-20 minute drive so the computer can learn the input values of the new sensors- city AND highway driving, if possible. And make absolutely certain you installed the new TPS correctly!
Also, I wonder if you have a vacuum leak. But not a constant one- a leak that's only present when certain parts of the vac system are in operation. Examples of vac components that open and shut are the EGR valve, canister purge, AIR (smog) system... these components engage and disengage at different times. Perhaps the leak is within one of those systems and that's why it's intermittent??
Just something to consider/investigate. Also, if there's a CEL, there are codes to be found, so something must not have gone right with the scanner process.

woah woah woah.. slow down...
autozone cant scan for codes.. they only scan 96 and after OBD-II..
if your TPS continues to give you issues it may be your ECU.. I had this issue when i picked up my truck..
your truck does not have MAF unless it was swapped on....
vacuum leak you can do a smoke test on it.. or you can spray a mist of water on vacuum lines.. should notice a difference..
