Stock 09 Expy fuel milage

Just curious. 50/50 city/hwy, the stock 2009 expedition 4wd is getting 15 mpg solid. No give or take. 90,000 miles on the odometer, just curious is this approx. what you guys are getting? Time for plugs? Current on air, oil and trans fluid changes, I seem to remember getting 17 when we first got it. Any advice?

are you using ethanol free gas?

i think thats pretty much atleast 10% of someones gas mileage, i get 13mpg with a heavy foot, and 10% ethanol gas.

ray, no, the only gas available is 10% ethanol. My wife drive it a majority of the time and she does not have a lead foot.

wow that is some good mileage then!
2wd mode or 4 auto?

my leadfoot probably accounts for the mileage loss.

4 wd automatic. I just was fishing to see if anyone changed their plugs and wires around the 90K mile mark and if it helped them. I am at a loss for the drop in milage we have seen.

Usually it points to a partially clogged exhaust, possibly a pipe rusted off in the muffler or Catz, causing some back pressure hurting mileage immediately. A tune up and new exhaust probably will help a lot. You may be with the winter blend already? Don't know if your state has mandatory ethanol labels on the pumps or not and the way they do it in the fall. Tires could use a little air in em too?

winter blend makes sense, the milage started dropping around the same time my diesel did. i know we share the same supply lines as much colder areas than coastal NC and it always seemed rediculous that we would have the winter blend stuff here. Oh well, I had no idea gaasoline did it as well. On the other hand....I have been wanting to redo the exhaust anyway.

We have temperatures between 30 and - 10 here and since this winter my MPG dropped to 14!!

I am not happy and Ford has no solution. 85 K miles and all services done at Ford.

So what should I check?

I get 91 octane gas.

That's normal mileage. Check tire pressure, air filter, fuel filter, clean MAF sensor, etc. Driving habits, etc. It's a 6,000lb vehicle.
