The ‘warrior puppy’ given a new life after it was found starved near to death… and went on to change the life of the autistic boy who’s now its best friend
An eight-year-old who suffers from autism, has transformed from a 'painfully awkward, isolated' boy into an outgoing chatterbox, thanks to his beloved rescue dog.

The first ever dog I had as a kid was a female golden retriever. Her name was Jessie. Oh man I loved that dog. She had some quirks, like retrieving and hiding socks. In her later years, she would take socks and roll them up and bring them to us when we came home. Towards the end of her 11 year life, she developed a brain tumor that was causing her to have serious seizures which eventually lead to memory loss. She wouldn't respond to her name, couldn't remember where her bed was or who we all were. After a particularly bad night of seizures, my parents called the vet and he came out to put her to sleep. That was a terrible day for all of us.
This was her before the tumor. She loved running around and rolling on the fresh cut grass.
After that my parents said they weren't going to get another dog until both my sister and I had moved out. Well come Christmas time that same year (Jessie was put down in February), a opportunity came up to get a golden retriever puppy. We all agreed to take on another dog. And thus began the story of Lana.
She is on the smaller side of golden retrievers. And on the blond side. But she is the cutest darn dog I've seen in a while. We've had her for 2 years now. (it's really hard to take photos of a puppy when they are excited, and slightly afraid of my camera..)
Playing tug with my mum
Standing on my chest while I slept on the couch..
And here she is now
And here's a quick little video from last summer. We had just recently got screens that pull across the front of the door so we could leave them open. Well our dog couldn't tell when it was open or closed. So she ran smack into it a couple times, and other times (like this one), she couldn't tell it was retracted.
