I'd be looking for a new dealer. Do you have your own DTC code reader? Also the Auto Enginuity Scantool software is very good for diagnosing engine trouble. If nothing else at least get a couple of other shop opinions on the problem.

well i took it on 100 mi trip all threw the mountains huge climbs stop and go ran like a dream no issue as soon as i reach 100.4 mi my check engine light came on the was no noise or lack of power at idle or hwy and street speeds im at a loss. When i was checking everything out i noticed all the bolts on my motor had been touched with a wrench and i noticed wow my cyl heads are really clean and it looks like both heads were removed at one point and i popped the cover off on the vct senor and took a look inside all looks super clean nothing in there looks brand new soo im taking it the heads were rebuilt at one time so if anybody has any suggestions besides a engine replacement i would greatly appreciate it!

How did the dealer determine the whole engine needs to be replace?

By looking in their own books and seeing they were in the red for the month. This told them they needed more revenue, so the motor has to be changed to fix the problem. They just didn't specify who's problem was being taken care of!

A rebuilt engine costs around 2500-3000. You can probably find a used for less but I would only recommend used engine for people how do the work themselves. If the engine is really new that $5500 is probably right. I would think an independent shop could put in a rebuilt one for less, but first I would want a second opinion for that kind of expense.

Down stream O2 sensor is reporting to the PCM that the bank 2 cat is not doing its job. Seeing as how that is the bank that had the misfire, you may have a cooked cat.

Compare the temps of the bank 1 & 2 cats.

Because good "mechanics" with diagnostics skills are hard to come by so they go the easiest route and say new engine- but if they can't figure out engine codes and how to fix them I certainly wouldn't trust them with an engine swap. Unless that thing is knocking at 115K it certainly can be fixed

shees...if you really want to know the condition of your engine have an indy do a compression check. It dont lie.

Ive got 140k on my expyeb and it runs friggin great! 115k is too soon for rebuild if youve run it w oil in it.
