Mileage and wear???

I can buy a 1996 E350 14' box van for $3,000.00. It has over 300,000 miles. It is driven daily, has been maintained well. A lot of highway miles. Should I be concerned? It was used to deliver all of the junk you see at your local gas stations, lighters, hats, cheap toys etc. It never really hauled a lot of weight.

The Diesel Dude will hopefully chime in here, to substantiate what I'm going to say.....
I've heard that the Powerstroke engine was engineered to go 300,000 miles. If that's the case, the life that would be left in the engine of the van you're considering might be quite short, but if the maintenance was kept up, it might still go for quite a while.

If it runs all right it may be all right. I really wouldn't worry about the engine having 300,000 miles on it so much as the chassis. (just my opinion).

Are the rebuidable? Or should a new one be purchased? I plan on REALLY looking the van over.

Everything is rebuildable but who needs the aggravation? If money is a problem, buy the used one and rebuild what ever needs rebuilding as it comes along. If money is not an issue, buy a new one and let the warranty take care of any problems that arise.
