Re-stroked a 360 to a 390!

<table id="post1746777" class="tborder" align="center" border="0" cellpadding="6" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr valign="top"><td class="alt1" id="td_post_1746777" style="border-right: 1px solid #ffffff"> My Dad and I bought a 1968 F100 Ranger to restore.
The original motor was a 360.
But we bought a 390 crankshaft and rods to put in it.
We also bored it .030 over with Sealed Pro 9.5:1 pistons.
Added a 1968 390GT camshaft, and an Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum intake.
And then added a Holley 650 double-pumper.
The truck came with 2 1/2" Hedman headers.
I need all of the advice I can get on how to fine tune this engine, seeing that this is our first one and we know absolutely nothing about FE engines.
I have found a friend in Illinois named Bob Hasty who is guiding me pretty well.
Right now there is a stalling of power with the engine when I reach about 5000 rpm.
I have no idea why?
Can someone help?
Thanks!

'sounds like a nice combo!

Have you checked or upgraded the ignition system? An engine is an engine.. aim for around 10 BTDC and around 32 degrees of total advance.

Regardless if it is a double pumper (four barrels all the time) it might be running out of fuel at 5K and going lean thus not revving any higher. Btw, I'd put the redline at 5500 RPM for an FE. They're designed for torque.. not high RPM HP.

Don't have a tachometer yet.
Kept the stock points system.
Tried an Ignitor II, but the motor wouldnt fire.
I think a peice was missing out of the box though.
It would fire as long as I held the switch in the "start" position.
Tried adjusting the front float and it looked good.
May need to check the back float...

Thanks for all the advice.
