1985 manual locking hub service manual?

I'm finally rebuilding my hubs (while doing the brakes) and got stuck last night.
I have a D-44 TTB. Axle tag says:
3.54 VE5TA SA
6 10231-2

These are the hubs

Oddly, this post, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...ml#post9175355 says they are a D-50.
(As an aside, could someone have installed D-50 hubs on a D-44? It doesn't matter really, as I have what I have, but I am curious.)

Anyway, I got this far

I've removed the screw and the splined ring it retain and the snap ring, but the rest won't slide out.
I spent a lot of time searching last night but can't find a service manual online. I looked though the stickies and downloaded some manuals from DANA, but none of the hubs covered look like mine. Some are close, but notably missing from all is the screw in the center for the selector.

Anyone have a link to the manual or instructions of some sort?
Thanks.

Ah! So there's supposed to be a "Ford" label over the screw in the selector. No wonder I couldn't find any that looked the same.

I don't know for sure..Maybe someone with more knowledge than I(wouldn't take much) can explain..

My F150 has the manual lock hubs..

Some people have switched over the automatic locking hubs to manual..I haven't messed with them so don't know for sure...

Good luck on getting it apart and fixed up...Trav..

There is a large ring just inside the lip of the hub did you take that out?? I can see it in your picture, its stubborn sometimes but you need to dig that out and it should slide out.

He has a dana 44 HD because it's 8 lug and goes on a f250. The regular dana 44 goes on the f150. They both use the same hubs though.

Like the other poster said, there is a retaining ring right around the outside edge. It's hard to see, and you will need a pick or small screwdriver to dig it out of the groove that is in the ID of the hub(the part that sticks out).

Yup, it was the ring just inside the lip of the hub. I couldn't see it well enough last night. Removed it and the inner bits slid right out.
Needed my hi-lift jack handle on my 18" breaker bar to the the bearing locknut loose!

On a side note, I discovered that my front hub inner bearings are the same as the rear hub outer bearings.
