Can I put in a manual transmission?
Hey all,
My 92 F-150 has the E4OD, I think, and it's experiencing that typical Ford problem of slipping when going into overdrive. It's got close to 300k miles.
I'd really love to put a manual in there, rather than just rebuilding my current automatic, or replacing it with another automatic.
Has anyone done this? Can I successfully put a manual transmission into a truck that originally had an automatic?
Any advice or sites I should look at is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Yeah that's doable, first thing you want to do is figure out exactly what auto trans you have and the trans code on the door pillar will give that info, T is AOD, U is 4R70w, E = E4OD. If you have an AOD this is an easy swap because it's not computer controlled so you won't have any computer issues to deal with, but with the other two you will have to reconnect the MLPS sensor after the trans is removed, permanently set to the drive position and strap it up out of the way somewhere. With that done the computer will still generate a bunch of trans codes but at least the truck will drive, the other solution is to swap in a PCM for a non computer controlled trans.
And of course you will have to swap in a manual pedal assembly and swap the auto trans flexplate for a manual flywheel.
