heater blower motor not working

Sorry for the new post. I have 79 f250 cab with No factory air. First I checked the fuse and got power there. Then I checked power at switch. I have power to the orange wire(with key on) and power to all other wires with key on or off. I'm guess that tells me the switck is good, right?. Where do I check next down the line?

Then I have power to the 3 wires that plug into the bosome heating element looking thing)but no power to motor wires.

The heater element you describe is the blower motor resistor. Can you clarify what you meant by "power to all other wires with key on or off"?

Check for continuity through "element thing" or visually check to see if it is broken by pulling it out heater box .. check if it is fuse protected .. you can check blower fan by adding 12 volts to it

Made mistake. Orange wire has power to it with key on only. All othe wires have power to them with the key on and the switch on ,no power to three other wires unless switch is on.

Does the blower come on with the switch set to HIGH? Or are all speeds dead?

The blower motor doesn't work on any setting.

Risister hase continuity.
Motor works when hot wired from battery.

So as fmc400 points out the blower motor speed switch is suspect

MOTORCRAFT Part # YH2 {#D3AH19A642AA, D3AH19A642BA, D3AZ19986A}
1978 FORD F-250 Blower Switch
1978 FORD F-250 Blower Motor Relay

The switches for blower motor speed have always been iffy however make sure relay works also..

Is there a way to bypass the switch with a wire to see if fan works? I' getting power all the way to the resister but thats it, none to motor.

yes .. all the switch does is limit the amount of juice going to the blower so if you test for juice on both sides of switch with it in an on position and you have power then check relay .. If you don't have power on both sides of switch when on then it is the switch ..

A '79 does not have a blower motor relay. You can test if the speed switch is the problem by removing the connector at the back of the switch. By jumping the ORANGE wire to the BLACK with YELLOW stripe wire, the fan should come on in HIGH.

No, that's not what I'm pointing out, and the switch is not suspect.

Even if the switch is completely bad, the fan should still come on in LOW. By default, the entire blower motor resistor is in the path; all the speed switch does is jump taps in the blower motor resistor. The switch can be completely removed and the blower motor should still come on.

If you have power at the ORANGE wire going into the speed switch, but the blower motor does not even come in in LOW, then check the blower motor resistor for continuity.
He has a 78

He already reported the resistor has continuity ..
Risister hase continuity.

That last post of mine that you quoted was in error; I wrote it assuming he has an A/C truck. He does not have an A/C truck, so I corrected myself (you will see the post has since changed). The wiring is different between the two. The OP stated in his first post that he has a '79. A '78 wouldn't have a blower motor relay either.

Ok I found a bad ground(heater motor plugin under hood)hooked it to the truck chassis and it works! The switch works on all three speeds. On to installing the core &box with my ball valve inline the heater hose to shut heater core completely off for the hot days to come in Florida.
