i'm trying to figure out how to empty my fuel water seperator. manual says there is a vent up top and petcock on the bottom, but i seem to have a different one..cause there is no petcock. i'm assuming there used to be something that ran through the floor that you pull to release the water? i can feel some sort of cable up above it that is attached to a free floating lever (i'lm assuming it was once attached to somethign). tried pulling hte cable but nothign happened? was i on the right track?
p.s. the reason im trying to empty it is because i have a vacuum gauge that has started to rise and i know its not the fuel filter...assuming that its an indication that the fuel/water seperator needs to be emptied....
in my van, the water seperator was mounted along the frame rail, with a cable going to a handle next to the drivers seat to drain it.
it sounds like thats what you have, so if yes, go under the truck and pull that little lever that the cable is supposed to pull. if that doesn't do it, bypass the water seperator, buy an aftermarket one, and go from there. the factory ones are known for leaking from their drain
its an 85 e350 van. sounds like what joshofalltrades is describing. i'll give it another try in the daylight. i put the vacuum gauge in cause i also run wvo...but the veg doesn't go through the seperator. thanks you guys
A lot of guys discount those seperators. So yours mit be discounted also. Like said above they leak and cause fuel to drain back and make hard starts sometimes.
so i take it your vacuum gage is installed in the fuel suction line, with the intent of showing fuel supply restriction? i would count that as unnecessary for someone running just pump fuel, but a good diagnostic instrument for your use.
bonanza, it appears you're using the word discount when you mean to say disconnect - is that correct
yeah its just for troubleshooting and stuff....lets me know when i need to change the filter on the wvo side of things.
disconnecting the fuel/water seperator didn't change my vacuum problem though, but i'm gonna bring the issue over to the 'alternative fuels' forum because maybe that's where it belongs now?
Not to pick a fight or nuthin..on my junk.the banks gauge atatches on the intake side of the pressure chamber, and acording to banks tech when I was trouble shooting my gauge pack, I asked was it a vaccume gauge due to where it hooked up and was told yes???
For it to be running as a pressure gauge it would need to be hooked to the outlet side'"yes"?
not that banks tech has not given me the easy answer rather than the correct one before.
thanx for the responce cb
