Guys
today I picked up a well-used chipmore wood chipper. I always thought that these things came with the good ole ford straight sixes. The owner told me that it came originally with a Ford 390 but he since then replaced it with a 360? I dont know. It seems kinda strange that I have a 360 or 390 V8 in a wood chipper. Does anyone have any ideas here? THe chipper has 16'' blades and on the title it is a 78. I think i saw on the block somewhere a C7ME casting #. The exhaust manifolds are NOT the log type. Instead, they come down like the old ram horn manifolds. I didnt get a chance to look at the manifold in gr8 detail yet. Any ideas??
regards
Ben

sounds very interesting - the only chipper I have used had a 300 I6 on it .
posting the casting numbers would be helpfull but also verify the stroke to see if it is a 360 or a 390.
Neat machine

I believe the "ram" style manifolds came on the FT version, or the "big truck" equivelent of the FE. These are are the 361 or 391 cid's. Have you detrmined it is a V8, sounds like you still are questioning that... Check the different posts, there is plenty of info on checking the actual stroke.
Keep us updated.--Mike

According to the Ford High Performance Engine parts interchange a C7ME block isn't a 360 or a 390, you got yourself a 428!

Check the stroke, that should get you close. There is always the hopes of an A or a C cast into the back of the block behind the flywheel....

I think 427 and 428 blocks were common in industrial applications. Put a ruler to that stroke and bore.

that's my dream, to run across a 427 in some rarely used industrial machine :-) I understand the block is about the only part worth anything. The rest of it is low compression durability parts.

If it's a 428 then it will have a cast-in counterweight on the flywheel or a welded-on one on the flexplate. 428's also have "428" cast into the cylinder sleeve just inside the middle freeze plug hole in the side of the block.

Tomorrow I will get some more #'s off the block. I can tell you that it has the double fan belt setup. I read somewhere that the double fan belt setup indicated an early 60's engine? I just remembered that the guy I bought it off of said that this engine came out of a wrecked 60's car to replace the blown 390 that was originally in it. Ill check the stroke with a wooden dowl sometime this weekend when I can tear into it some more. The heads though, are regular C8AE-H jobs. I doubt these heads came on 428s or 427s??
regards
Ben
