88 f150 AOD wont shift out of 1st!

Hey everyone. so my truck wont shift out of first gear. It is a 302 with and AOD tranny. it will shift into reverse and nuetral just fine. If i try to drive it in "D" it will stay in 1st and when i get it up in rpms and let off the gas it will just coast instead of the engine slowing it down. but if i drive it in "1st" the engine will slow it down. I have tried adjusting the TV cable with no luck. the tranny fluid is maybe a tad above the full line.any ideas?

It sounds like the TV cable down at the transmission end is stuck wide open for some reason.

What's the back story here, have you done any work on the truck recently or has it been driving and working perfectly then bam.. suddenly it won't shift?

hey sorry for not gettin back. ive been crazy busy. I actually just bought the truck from and elderly lady for a fricking STEAL knowing that it wouldn't shift out of first gear. She said she had a guy do some work to it (fix a oil leak). Its in perfect condition other than the tranny. I dropped the transfer case to take a look at the governer thinking it might be stuck, to my surprise it was only half there. Somehow the counter weight broke off completely. almost like someone broke it off. i was supprised it was still able to stay attached to the shaft. idk where the other half is? not in the tail housing and there is no evidence of broken metal. even when i pulled the pan to change the filter and fluid there was no evidence. What im thinking is since there was orange gasket sealer in between the tail housing and tranny that the idiot who didn't know what the hell he was doing reinstalled it thinking it didn't matter if it was broken in half. So im going to go to the local tranny shop to get a new one. I bought it thinking i would have to replace the tranny so i was stoked to find this! lol
