when i step on the gas, the engine begins to cut out and lose power, as if its missing while firing. ive checked the firing order ,which is correct. any ideas?
Something that comes to mind is bad coil, coil not wired correctly, or you might not be having a problem that isn't related to the ignition system at all. For example my '47 started and idled perfectly but wouldn't rev up at all. It turned out that my accelerator plunger had folded a corner over and wasn't working. Fixed that and everything worked fine.
well the coil is brand new. as i listen to it more, it sounds like its missing even on idle. I was told it could possibly be something with the carburetor, where i need to disassemble it and unplug some lines in. If this is the possible case, any idea where i would find some schematics to follow along with?
Is this problem an all of a sudden thing or has it an old one that you're working on .Without hearing it run I would suggest accelerator pump or vacuum advance .
put a dwel meter on it and tape it to the windshield so you can see it and go for a drive, if the dwel meter jumps around when it is missing the distbutor needs rebuilt, cuz of to much play, will make for the points not to open consistently under load.
