wondering if it would be alright to use a muffler off a gasser (2011 hemi), 3 inch inlet on my NA 7.3? found a few stock diesel muflers off new cummins but theyre all too far. really dont want to spend more than 50$ on a muffler, and the open pipe is definitly annoying when towing lol
Glass pack would be about $20-30. Depends on what kind of muffler it is, it could plug up on ya over time. Everyone used to suggest just a chambered muffler for a diesel, like a flowmaster or similar.
^^ I put a glass pack on my 6.9. It's actually not that loud at all, can't really hear it over the engine when accelerating or cruising, and it only crackles a bit on using the engine to brake down a hill.
I had the exact same glass pack on the 7.3 in the '92. It was a little louder on acceleration then the 6.9, but still not bad at all.
As far as..? The glasspack could get louder over time from the soot, the chambered shouldnt. I had some magnaflow raptors on my small block and they sounded kick ***. But if you dont like it loud when towing / opened up, then these probably arent for you. Really nice rumble at idle / cruising, but at WOT they sound straight piped.
