Over the last week or so I have had several instances of my truck sputtering and stalling while driving. It has happened after I accelerate aggressively or occasionally when I am stopped at a stop light or stop sign and attempt to accelerate forward. While it is happening I have no control over acceleration but after a few good pumps on the gas and about 10-15 seconds later it fires up again like normal. During the stall process dark/black smoke comes out of the exhaust. I haven't looked into any issues yet I was really just wondering if anyone has had the same problem and would know where to start.

 

maybe turbocharger issue?? Mine gets like that if I don't run it hard. Especially in winter, short trips, excessive idling. Need to run the bag off it at least weekly. Idling is death for modern high speed diesels (in my opinion), unless you get them up to 1200 or 1400 rpm for idle.

 

The first thing I would do is check the EGR valve to see if it's dirty. Here's a thread from the 6.0 Tech Folder sticky that will show you how to remove it:

Note: DO NOT use brake cleaner if you're going to clean the valve. Use carb cleaner, and be careful not to get any in the two vent holes.
